Reverse Engineering of a Toy Fan
This was our first project of the year and we had an introduction to reserve engineering by researching is and trying it for ourselves. We began by learning what reserve engineering is and looking at really life examples such as creation of cell phone cam and the Tupolev Tu-4 Soviet bomber from the Boing B-29. To learn more about engineering we practice consensual sketches by bringing in small objects dissembling them and sketching them. Afterwards we formed into small groups each group picking one object to do an in depth report and research on. My object the toy fan was picked by the group. It was originally a toy that made a ball float in some sort of game.We were unable to find it online and where is originated from. We did do a functional analysis, structural analysis , material analysis, and manufacturing analysis of our object by looking online at similar products and materials we believed the fan was made out of. I was tasked with the structural analysis, researching how all the parts were connected and work together to achieve the objects' purpose. The group then complied all our research into one report. We also made a slide to present to the class.

I thought the project turned out great. I'm proud of the quality and end result of the report and presentation. As for group dynamics I believed the work was split up pretty evenly. We overall had good teamwork and communication. We had a hard time focusing at the beginning but once we started working it we did good work. Personally I really liked the conception sketching and wished I had more time to practice and work on it. I'm happy that my group mates thought my original sketches were good enough to put into the report and presentation. For this project I had the opportunity to practice leadership and explaining skills. Since the group had chosen my object at the beginning I led explained my knowledge of the object and what was still needed to be researched.
I wish a followed up more on what other group member were researching and doing. At the end of the project I realized that I knew very little about the gantt chart. Also during the presentation we were missing a member so going over the slides they made about their research was a little rough. In the future I plan to be more knowledge about ever aspect in the project. I also struggled with time management . An example is my sketches. I am very proud my by first few sketches but as time went on I saw the quality degrading. The labels and explanation on the sides become rougher. I plan to improve management though practice and taking some time to plan ahead for my next steps and how long it should take. |
