Musclar and Nervous Systems
Conceptsorgan system: a group of organs working together to perform bodily functions
muscular system: - skeletal: controls voluntary actions (ex: moving limbs). - smooth: controls involuntary actions (ex: veins pump blood). - cardiac: pacemaker contracts and expands to pump blood in and out of the heart. nervous system: sends and recieves messages to and from the body. - brain: processes information and sends messages to and from the body. - spinal cord: sends messages from the brain to the nerves; triggers reflexes. - nerves: connects the nervous system to other organs. - neurons: the chemical and electrical signal that travels through the nervous system. We had to learn about the systems we chose before we made them. Along with the functions of each system we also learned the different organs and their function in each system. In our model the brain is the power outlet, the tubes are smooth muscles, the pump is cardiac muscle, and the lights reprsent nerves and nerons. We used skills from engineering class last year to build the model. |
ContentIn this project we had to choose two organ systems in human body and showed how they worked. Each system has to show a function working individually and one function with the systems working together. Our project shows the muscular and nervous system working together in the left arm. The lights represents neurons sending signals to the muscles. The elastic represent the muscles moving the arm by contracting and expanding. The muscular individually function is pumping the blood(water) using the cardiac muscles in the heart. The nervous system individual function is the electricity that flows through the wires representing the signals at are send in the system. We also made a slides presentation showing our research. The organs systems functions and structures and were not included in the model.
ReflectionThis project I feel turned out great. The slides and model look great. Both the model and slides are clear, get information across, and work properly. The model is well build and looks good thanks to the drawing and craftsmanship. The group I was part of worked together really well. We were able to get a lot of good work done. At first our progress was slow, but once we focused and started working we did a lot of good work. We probably should have distributed the work better because we reached a lot of points where only one or two people could work on the project and everyone else just sat around. I felt like I did too little work on this project. I also did not contribute to much of research aspect. In the future I plan to work harder and more on projects. I learned how paint upside down and how use aquatic pumps.
